The Early Mint
This section covers several areas connected to our early coinage produced at the first two Mints. Some of these are the following:
Mint Personnel
The people and the personalities involved in our early coinage are many and varied. Listed on the pages in this section are the principle players, their known backgrounds, and the roles that they played in creating the small time capsules of history we lovingly covet, seek out and collect, called “coins”. These lists only contain those people working from the beginning of the first Mint, to the end of the early bust series (1838)...
Mint Buildings
Both the first Mint constructed in 1792, sold in 1835 and finally torn down in 1912, and the new more modern second Mint constructed from 1829 to 1833 are covered in detail with all known photographs included.
Mint Machinery
Although we have little complete information of the machines used in the first Mint, all that can be found will be included and delineated. Many new machines were designed, built and installed in the Mint after Franklin Peale returned from a several year trip to study other world Mints and their equipment.
