Early United States Quarters 1796-1838
This section covers the early quarter dollars produced at the first and second Mints in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania from 1796 through 1838.
Most of the information contained on this site was first presented in the first totally new book on the early quarter series to be published since 1975 and was based on the earlier work of Ard Browning from 1925. Although a revamp of Browning's 1925 work was done in 1992, it fell far short from an adequate updated work on the subject. Early United States Quarters 1796-1838 was published in 2008 after five years research starting with a new clean sheet of paper and an open mind. In depth studies were done on the rare 1823 and 1827 quarters with a goal of delineating all of the known examples and to discover the real amounts and reasons for their being struck. Although some new information has since been discovered about various die stages listed in the work, nothing else of significance has changed in the past seven years after publication. Included on the new discoveries page are those few die stage discoveries. Recent News
